Mary Westphal – Sylvania City Council
My name is Mary Westphal. I have had the honor of serving on Sylvania City Council since 2008 and in the role of President of Council from 2012 to 2021. Currently, I serve as chair of the Streets Committee and as a member of the Annexation and Zoning, Finance, and Safety Committees. Prior to serving on Council, I served on the Sylvania Municipal Planning Commission.
As a lifetime resident of the City of Sylvania, Ohio, I have a personal passion for this city and its’ continued success. My experience as an executive director of a local nonprofit agency provides direct experience with setting and managing budgets which translates well into understanding the financial reports for the city. Additionally, my communications background has taught me to enter into every discussion with an open mind and a willingness to listen to all sides of the discussion.
I am a graduate of Bowling Green State University where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism. I live in Eagle Trace with my husband Bob. We have three grown children and one grandchild.
In my role as a member of Sylvania City Council, I see my primary responsibilities as being a good steward of community resources and a voice for the citizens of Sylvania. I am committed to:
- Strong fiscal management and balanced budgets.
- Economic development opportunities and bringing new businesses to our community
- Supporting law enforcement to maximize the safety of all citizens of Sylvania.
- High quality city services including cost effective trash and recycling, appropriate street maintenance, reliable water and sewer services and more.
